IBM on Monday released the latest version of its artificial intelligence model for the enterprise, hoping to capitalize on the boom in enterprise adoption of generative AI technology.
The “Granite 3.0” model will be open source, similar to other versions of IBM's Granite family of AI models. The approach differs from competitors such as Microsoft, which charges customers for access to its models.
Instead, IBM offers a paid tool called Watsonx that helps run the customized models in data centers.
Some of the new Granite model variants on the Watsonx platform are available for commercial use. Some of these models will also appear in Nvidia's software tool stack to help organizations integrate AI models.
The new Granite models were trained using AI chip leader Nvidia's H100 Graphics Processor Unit (GPU).
